Is 50,000 a Big Number?

It’s all relative, isn’t it? If you’re a multi-millionaire, 50,000 may not seem like that big of a number but if you’re on food stamps, 50,000 may seem like a goldmine ~ assuming we’re talking dollars here.

What about 50,000 views on a blog? Well, if you’re Lesley Carter, it’s a drop in the “bucket” and we’re probably talking about followers not views 😉 (and major kudos to you, Lesley!), but for little ol’ me with a blog about nothing (I feel like the Jerry Seinfeld of WordPress) ~ 50,000 is *BiG* number. And today I passed 50,000 views thanks to all of you! That’s kind of cool.

So in light of this MAJOR 🙂 accomplishment, I decided to check out what my top rated posts have been and I was a little surprised.

#1 is Amangiri: Peaceful Mountain (here). To this day, this is still the most unique resort I have ever visited so it doesn’t surprise me that there was interest in this one. Oddly though, it didn’t have the most likes.

#2 (and I did find this surprising) is The Creeping Fig’s Garden Faire (here). This was the recap on my sister’s garden faire and considering my sister and I are working on a garden book, I’m happy to see interest in this.

And #3 is Glitz, Glamour and Intrigue Remain Alive At The Neon Boneyard (here). I loved this post because I am obsessed with these signs. I would love to make a book out of these images but the Neon Museum does not allow any one to print images in books for resale. I suppose I will have to make a book for myself as a keepsake and maybe sell some images as fine art which they do allow.

So, is 50,000 a big number ~ yes it is ~ especially compared to my new travel blog, SKEdaddle that only has about 3,000 views (click here if you would like to help pump up that number – shameless promotion. :)). I also know my number could be a big, fat “0” if it weren’t for all of you so thank you, thank you, thank you!

  1. Wow 50 000 is a dream for me, your second blog up to 3 000, you are already popular… here I am after nearly 200 blogs nearing 6 000 views and I though I was doing well… now I have an inferiority complex, I think I can give up… thank you… (Only kidding) I think your blogs and photos deserve every read, like and view that you receive… I think I commented on one of your blogs some thing like “Damn but you’re good at this” and I can assure you I mean it… wonderful blogs I love to follow, and funny but that garden one I thought was an outstanding blog… congratulations and I don’t think its going to take long before you reach the realms of 50 000 per day….

  2. Congratulations! Wish I’m anywhere that number, but I understand, I’m busy to have proper posts. Keep up the good work, I love your blog, truly, honestly from my heart. Nice visuals with brief write-ups, what’s there not to love?!

  3. Lesley Carter scoots around the blogosphere ‘liking’ posts without clicking onto them or looking at them. This is how she gathered her following. I stopped subscribing to her travel blog when she started talking about nursing bras.
Your photos are beautiful, that’s why we follow you.

      • Thank you! I will be heading back to lovely Italy soon to gather some more photos to add to the thousands I have already.
At some point you may be interested in the stone house we are building in the mountains. It is not quite luxury yet because we have no gardens, but I will be working on that in the next few months. Hopefully by next spring it will be gorgeous. I have written lots about the house from the first stones to the almost completed house. Look for the category New House in Vergemoli.

    • I was going to say the exact same thing but didn’t want to sound mean. I am angry that some bloggers like every travel bloggers posts, follow zillions of people, but never ever leave a comment which makes me believe they aren’t actually reading your posts but using it as a way to grow heir own business. I’m not sure if she is doing that or not but if she is that is terribly unethical blogging behavior. I not trying to accuse or bad mouth anyone. But I only like posts and follow ones I truly read. I also feel it is truly important to comment on blogs and respond.
At BlogHer I met bloggers with 1.5 million followers and they said they always respond and comment at other blogs. It is part of building relationships and being ethical. Again notating any accusations here but if people aren’t being true and ethical then I lose faith until proven wrong.
You are doing a fabulous job on your blog connecting with readers and making us come back for me. Your honesty and excellent posts will make you soar and someday too you will have 50.0000 real followers and friends! 🙂

      • I can’t really comment on what others are doing either, I only have enough time to try to keep up with myself. 🙂 I truly do enjoy seeing everyone’s post and it’s not really about the numbers for me ~ especially not on this site. Now, if I wanted to build my travel business site I might work harder at but I’m not even sure that’s a goal yet. Your blog conference sounds wonderful, I can’t wait to hear your updates on it!

  4. Well, I just passed the 10.000 mark so for me 50.000 is an enormous accomplishment! Congrats! I like your remark about the differences in most viewed and most liked. Generally I feel that most people like my posts with landscape shots (these also drive search engine traffic). People hardly ever like shots with people but my madonna post caused my busiest day ever. Contradictions!

  5. Congrats… I can feel how excited you are because I am an avid stat checker… its crazy really…. I also have to thank you for the boost you gave me back in March when you reblogged one of my posts “the evolution of a blog – whats next?”. So the long and short is that as you were climbing to that 50,000 mark you allowed me to ride on your coat tails and start my climb to that number and increase my followers. I have still have a way to go but your popularity helped… so here’s to you! You have a great blog and I love to follow both of yours… Cheers….Steve….

  6. Wow!! Congratulations. Now I’m afraid to look at stats. After forever, I waiting/hoping to sometime see stats with 4 (yes four) digits. In the meantime, I blog because I love it. And I love your blog, the quote and the beautiful photography! Keep up the awesome work. 😀

  7. Congratulations on reaching that mark! You have an awesome blog, with lots of beautiful images and wonderful writing, so I’m sure you’ll triple that in no time too 🙂

  8. Kudos and congratulations! 50K is a big number. I remember stacking up pennies with my kids to show them 100, then 1000, and we never did get to 10,000, because I guess I didn’t want to change $100 into pennies. Keep posting great stuff!

  9. Congrats on the accomplishment! I agree it’s not so much about the numbers, but it does make you feel like what you are doing matters. I enjoy the wonderful content on both of your blogs. That is what keeps me coming back. Keep up the great work Susan!
