I have so many people who inquire as to where my blog banner photo was taken that I thought I would go ahead and do a post on it since it is a pretty incredible and fascinating location.
This is Castello di Amorosa, a winery located in the Napa Valley near Calistoga, California. This is the pet project of 4th generation vintner, Dario Sattui who also owns and operates the V. Sattui Winery named after his great-grandfather who originally established a winery in San Francisco in 1885.
This project was a 14 year endeavor for Dario, who ended up sinking all of his resources into this project ~ I guess you could call this the ultimate labor of love. See here for the fascinating full story of this project.
From the moment you turn off of Hwy 29 onto the driveway of Castello di Amorosa, you are transported to an Italian countryside location.
You are lured up the driveway by the beautiful Italian Cypress trees which eventually opens up to the incredible sight of this amazing 121,000 square foot castle surrounded by its vineyards.
The attention to detail that went into the construction of this winery is simply amazing. The individual selection and placement of each piece of stone, the detail of the moat and hand carved medieval entrance door, the beautiful wrought iron work and other such elements are executed to perfection.
There are several smaller buildings scattered throughout the property executed with the same amount of detail and care.
This little beauty was more than happy to pose and smile for me.
And of course, I have only highlighted the amazing property. After you’re done being awestruck with what you see, it’s time for the wine tasting to begin! 😉
