Savor Each Moment In Life

A Prayer For Natalie

If you think about it, there is really very little news in life that truly drops your stomach to the ground and knocks you for a loop. We hear things that surprise us, might hurt us, angers us, and so forth which garners a reaction, but that gut-wrenching news, the type you truly never want to hear, luckily doesn’t come too often.

Today I had a moment when my stomach fell to the floor for a split second, and in that moment, I realized how precious and fragile life is.

My best friend of over 33 years has a 16 year old daughter who recently started to drive. As a parent, I’m sure it’s hard to let go of the reigns and let your children find their own way in this jungle we call life ~ but it’s the law of nature. It happens whether you like it or not. So you know where I’m going with this…my dearest friend’s daughter was in a serious car accident this weekend (she was not driving, a friend her same age was). I first got the news as a voice mail message and when I heard “Nat has been in a car accident”, that is the moment my stomach dropped. I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear the next sentence but she went on to say “she’s be airlifted to a hospital”.

With my mind spinning, I frantically try calling my friend to connect with her. Thank goodness she answers the phone ~ I’m preparing myself for the worse but when I hear her voice I know it’s not so. I’m informed that she is seriously injured with a bad hip fracture and she will be going into surgery tomorrow, but she’s alive and will fully recover. My heart starts beating with some consistency again and I can breathe. For a moment, I put myself in my friend’s shoes and wonder how she must have felt to hear that news ~ it’s unimaginable to me.

Why am I posting this? Because I believe in the power of prayer, of putting thoughts out into universe so they can be heard and answered. Although it does not appear to be a life threatening situation any longer, I am still saying my prayers that her surgery goes well and that she recovers fully and quickly ~ and if you have it in your heart to do the same, it would be sincerely appreciated.

I also bring this up because LIFE IS PRECIOUS! It can be taken away at any moment. If you have not personally received one of these gut wrenching calls yourself, use this as a lesson to appreciate who and what you have in your life every single moment! Don’t let silly, unimportant things ~ including your pride and ego ~ keep you from expressing your love to someone important. It’s truly all that matters in life!

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.

  1. These kind of life events To make you question This statement that everything has a reason. If we try to figure out why.. there is no why. Prayers for you and your friends daughter.
The universe is listening And appreciates your posting As we send thoughts your way.

  2. My heart with your friend’s daughter too dear Susan, I pray for this girl and for her family… You are a nice friend dear Susan, I am with you too. Love, nia

  3. My prayers for her full and speedy recovery. I feel for her parents, and for all of you who love her. I’ve been in this horrible place and you describe the feeling to a tee. You loose everything that holds you upright and you cease to breathe. You are so right Susan, don’t let a single day go by without telling those you love that you love them, and cherish each moment you do have as if it were the last. Blessings

  4. As you know, my gut has been wrenched just as you describe on more than a few occasions. I think every human on the planet knows suffering; probably every living thing does. Being present with each other, breathing with the peace that even gut-wrenching suffering has a place in this universe, is a marvelous antidote.

  5. Life IS precious and sometimes we need to be reminded. I’m glad your friend’s daughter will recover. I don’t really pray, but I will keep her and her family and you in my thoughts. 🙂

  6. Once again, I’m happy I’m here – what a powerful thing you’ve posted, Susan. I’m sure I’ll keep saying it, but you’re so much wiser than your years.

  7. Learnt that early Susan….lost my 22 year old brother in a car crash long ago. But the mind is a strange thing. Needs to be reminded over and over again.

  8. Death has touched my life enough to realize that tomorrow is promised to no one. Each time I speak to my children, my last words to them are always “I love you” … you never know, if those will be your last words spoken.

I am relieved for Natalie and her mother that she will survive. Sadly, we can’t always protect our kids from harm, but when tragedy does strike, sometimes it’s best to look for the blessings. 🙂 Peace and good fortune be with you this week, Susan. Natalie will be in my prayers for a full and speedy recovery, for sure.

  9. Powerful and Beautifully written
My prayers are with Natalie for a successful surgery and recovery and also with her Mom.

  10. Like Joanna, I don’t pray, but it sounds like your friend’s daughter is in skilled and caring hands. This is the best outcome and I’m grateful she is living in a time and place where she can heal. It sounds like she is surrounded by love and that’s all one can hope for. Having had my own in-your-face trauma, I am keenly aware how momentary life is and how quickly it can be gone.

Peace & Love to you and yours, Susan.

    • Thank you Carissa. She was extremely lucky that it wasn’t worse. She was in surgery for 5 hours today. It will be a long road to recovery. I’ll have to read your link but from bits I’ve seen you post, you certainly have had your trials as well and you seem to be so strong because of it.

  11. What a horrible moment for you and your friend. So glad everything turned out ok. I had hip surgery in November and recovered fully from my injuries and I have no doubt the same will be true for your friend’s daughter!

  12. Sending positive energy to your friend and her daughter. I was in a car accident when was in my late teens and I had a broken hip. She will be as good as new!! I have a 17 year old daughter who just started to study for her drivers, so your post made my stomach do a flip and drop. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t tell my daughter I love her.

  13. I came here because you had visited my blog and sent a LIKE my way. I’m so glad I found you and I look forward to following your posts. What a heart-wrenching moment. I am so thankful this ended up as it did. You can be sure I will pray. 😀
